Disaster Recovery Funds Activated in Response to Flooding

Provides relief, support and response to disaster declared counties
NEWS RELEASE – Des Moines, IA – Disaster Recovery Funds (DRFs) have been activated across the region in support of vulnerable populations following recent severe flooding. The DRFs provide an opportunity for the public to give, with the reassurance that donations will be quickly moved to resources where they are needed most to adapt to evolving priorities. The flexibility of the funds ensures counties and communities can respond to supplement needs being provided by existing nonprofit, local, state and federal programs.
The following communities have activated or established DRFs:

• Buena Vista County Community Foundation https://www.desmoinesfoundation.org/BVDisasterRecovery
“Iowans are resilient and have a history of coming together in times of crisis, flooding and disaster,” said Kristi Knous, president of the Community Foundation of Greater Des Moines. “Our proven track record demonstrates that we are better together, and this collaborative spirit will once again prevail as we support our neighbors in need.”
Funds received will first focus on disproportionately affected communities by addressing economic barriers and health impacts of populations negatively impacted by disaster in each local jurisdiction. The long-term application of the funds will focus on additional needs that are not already being met that may inevitably arise. Grants will be provided to community-based organizations and service providers active in current response and will not be made available for individual application. Local community leaders will work together to identify recipients with deep roots in the communities listed above and experience to deliver support and services to vulnerable populations in moments of crisis.
Contributions may also be mailed to the Community Foundation of Greater Des Moines, 1915 Grand Ave, Des Moines, IA 50309. Please note the fund you wish to support. Call (515) 883-2626 with any questions.
